Beauty tips to follow this summer

The sunny Indian Summer can be pretty harsh on your skin if you don’t take proper care of it. So, just like your wardrobe, your skin care too definitely needs a seasonal change.

Too much sun is bad for your skin and to top it off, all that pollution and humidity wipes off the natural glow of the face. To avoid all these hassles, and to keep your skin radiating, here are few easy-peasy tips you can follow this season.

Tip #1 Drink Lots of Water!

The most common problem I notice during summer time is dehydration. Even oily skin types can become dehydrated since the problem is lack of water moisture, not oil.

To avoid your skin from getting dehydrated, make water your best friend. You must drink at least 7-8 glasses of water daily. If possible, always carry a water bottle with you and remember to drink it at least every 30 minutes. This will hydrate your body and even keep your body temperature cool. Drinking water will also help to wash out toxins and avoid dehydration.

Tip #2 Keep your face clean

The 1st rule of basic skincare is to keep your skin clean and fresh. Make sure to keep your face clean of dust and sweat through these hot months. A lot of people encounter break-outs and pimples in these months. If you are one of them, make sure you splash your face with water at least 3-4 times every day.You don’t need to use a face washevery time, clean water would be just fine.

Tip #3 Using sunscreen is a must!

Don’t step out in the sun without wearing a sunscreen. Using sunscreen is very important to keep your skin protected from the sunrays. You must protect your skin with sunscreen before it gets damaged by the sun. Sunrays are a cause of many skin issues such as dry skin, brown spots and fine lines.

Make sure to apply the sunscreen 15 minutes before heading out in the sun. And that you are constantly reapplying it in a few hours gap. My current favorite sunscreen is the InnisfreePerfect UV Protection Cream Triple Care 50ml SPF50+ PA+++. I shall be doing a review of it very soon.

Tip #4 Eat Healthy Cool Options

Summer is my favorite time of the year when it comes to food. There are so many cooling food options to choose from this season like seasonal fruits, strawberries, oranges, watermelons, melons, mangoes, litchis.

We can also include fresh slushes and smoothies in our daily meal plans. We must try and avoid eating heavy food which will make you even more sluggish in a weather like this. Make sure atleast 8-10 glasses of water are being consumed by you everyday.

 Tip #5 Go for minimal make-up

 During summers, make friends with a minimal make-up side of you. Having less or no make-up in summers is the best. In summers, you tend to sweat a lot due to which your makeup tends to look very caky and oily. Also to avoid patches, opt for a powder foundation option/ loose powder option with SPF Preferably.

Tip #6Moisturize and Hydrate your body

 The scorching heat in summers can dry out your skin. You need to moisturize it to keep it healthy. Replace your winter cold creams and body butters with a light summery lotion. The lotion that you choose to buy should be light and fast absorbing. The Innisfree White Tone Up Lotion is my go to lotion this summer.

Make sure you apply this lotion once you are dry after your shower. This way you will be able to seal in the moisture soaked in by your body.

Tip #7 Wear comfy clothes

 There are many versions of clothing that can be worn during the summer. Make sure your choice of clothing for summer is very light and comfortable. Indian cotton and lighter fabrics like Khadi can be an excellent choice of material for summer clothes. Try wearing loose fitting clothes that are not body hugging. That will let your skin breathe and prevent them from rashes and skin infections caused due to excessive sweating.

Summer can be a hazardous time for our skin. Excessive sun exposure (skin dehydration, pigmentation, prickly heat, sunburn) followed by dry, hot winds and overzealous office air conditioning can easily damage delicate cells and cause premature ageing.
